Aside from the actual invisible man, wherever Cecilia goes there seems to be at least one man-shaped silhouette hidden in the background.

It begins in the basement of her house, in Griffin’s workshop, where she’s watched over by four black suits as she frantically disables the security cameras.

Likewise, one night at James’ house, Cecilia feels as if she’s being watched. She steps out into the hall and is backlit by the back-door window. The coats hung next to it look eerily like a human figure pressed up against the wall.

These shapes are littered everywhere: the silhouette posters in the mental facility (which have a hidden message all of their own, but we’ll get to that), the covered-up statue in her and Adrian’s former home that looks like something straight out of Scooby Doo.

The hat and coat in Sydney’s bedroom seem the most obvious instance of this - and have the added benefit of being a call-back to the original design of the 1984 Invisible Man.
