Production Budget: $176,000,000 Worldwide Gross: $183,887,723 Estimated Losses: $168,112,277 Like Seventh Son - which was released on the same day in U.S. theatres - the sci-fi movie Jupiter Ascending directed by the Wachowskis had a bad reputation before it was even released because its release date was shuffled around. In fact, just five weeks before its July 2014 release the movie was pushed back over six months to February 2015 because the effects weren't finished yet. Though Jupiter Ascending fared better in theatres than Seventh Son, because it cost so much more it lost more than twice as much. Warner Bros. essentially dumped the film and stars Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, and Eddie Redmayne barely even promoted it. It is probably good that Andy and Lana Wachowski had already decided to work on the well-reviewed Netflix series Sense8 after Jupiter Ascending because after directing three box office bombs in a row for Warner Bros. (Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas, and Jupiter Ascending) the siblings are unlikely to be trusted with a big budget movie anytime soon.
