We all know how strange a place Hollywood can be; even at the best of times, it's a bubble that those inside of it can't see of, nor those outside can even begin to comprehend. Therefore, it's no surprise that the film industry breeds its share of oddities, though inevitably, the truth - or lack thereof - of many tales proves difficult to resolve. This is how myths and urban legends are born; grand tales spread like wildfire - especially with the onset of the Internet's proliferation - and if the "victim" attempts to clear their name, they most often end up making themselves look more guilty. Whether disturbing or hilarious, here are 10 Hollywood myths everyone (somehow) seems to believe...

10. Tom Cruise's Sham Marriages

Here's one that's been doing the round for ages, ever since Tom Cruise was married to Nicole Kidman back in the late 1990s. The assertion was that Cruise is, in fact, a homosexual, but wanting to milk his clear stature as a handsome leading man to appeal to women, Kidman was simply his "beard", compensated in some form for pretending to be his wife. When that marriage dissolved and he ended up getting with Katie Holmes (who he later married), the rumours again resurfaced, especially considering the rather strange behaviour exhibited by both husband and wife during the start of the relationship - Cruise's couch-surfing incident on Oprah, and Holmes curiously dropping off the radar for a few weeks. Given that Holmes and Cruise divorced last year, you can expect the rumour mill to start burning bright again the second Cruise courts his next partner, and again, we'll probably believe it...
