Julianne Moore is the kind of actress who fits into the same category as Susan Sarandon - sexy but also classy and renowned for delivering performances which suggests a keen intelligence and commitment to the craft. Her recent performance as an Alzheimer's patient in Alice earned her a much deserved Academy Award for Best Actress. Like Oscar-winning Sarandon, Moore also appeared in a soap opera before moving to film, with a role in As The World Turns, a drama series which is second only to Guiding Light in terms of longest-running television dramas of all time. She played Frances "Frannie" Hughes for 3 years in the mid-1980s, and even returned to the show for a special appearance as recently as 2010. It's a far cry from the calibre of acting we've come to expect from Moore in recent years - few Hollywood stars are quite so diverse and committed to the craft as she is, having worked with everyone fro Gus Van Sant and the Coen brothers to Paul Thomas Anderson and Steven Spielberg.
