10 Horror Films You Constantly Have To Defend Loving

3. Vampire Killer Barbys (1996)

Anchor Bay
When it comes to Jess Franco€™s films, it€™s a tossup as to what's the worst aspect: the out-of-focus cinematography, the non-existent storylines, or the glacial pacing. Even the filmmaker€™s biggest fans admit that only 1 in 10 of his movies are watchable, so it€™s a surprise to find him at the helm of this rousing sleazefest. His protagonists here are real-life Spanish punk band Killer Barbies (with their name changed to placate Mattel) and the movie is essentially a promo for the Misfits-influenced group with several of their best songs on the soundtrack. There€™s no real plot, just a succession of sequences where the director of She Killed In Ecstasy and Erotic Rites Of Frankenstein indulges his passion for softcore-tinged bloody mayhem. There€™s frontal nudity, decapitations, frontal nudity, death by steamroller, and did we mention frontal nudity? Weirdest of all (no mean feat) is the end credits title card that informs us: €œNobody really died. Our story is, in reality, a creation.€
