10 Horror Movie Characters You Totally Expected To Die... But Didn’t

3. John Parse - Possessor

You're likely very surprised to see Sean Bean appear on this list. The man is legendary for his poor luck in films, and over the course of his storied career, we've seen him meet his fate in all manner of incredibly gruesome ways.

So, it came as quite the surprise to viewers when he managed to make it through to the end of Brandon Cronenberg's hyper-violent body-horror extravaganza, Possessor.

For the uninitiated, Possessor is a delightfully grotesque sci-fi horror movie in which hired assassins are able to jump inside the bodies of other people in order to carry out their hits, essentially leaving no evidence that they themselves were ever there. It's a highly fun concept, but in the hands of Brandon 'Son of David' Cronenberg, it's taken to incredible extremes that really do need to be seen to be believed.

Given that Sean Bean's track record for kicking the bucket on screen works against him, viewers were certain that his character, John Parse, would snuff it when protagonist Vos is tasked with carrying out a hit on him. Instead, said hit doesn't go the way that you'd expect, bucking one of the internet's favourite cinematic trends in the process.
