10 Horror Movie Creature Features That Broke All The Rules

2. Burning Bright

Named after a line in William Blake's famous poem The Tyger, Burning Bright is an underrated 2010 indie horror which follows a young woman who is besieged by a big cat with meat on its mind in her remote country home.

The film from Quid Pro Quo director Carlos Brooks sees the heroine attempt to save herself and her autistic sibling from the massive beast. However whilst the movie may feature a man-eating tiger, the twisty narrative soon reveals that one human character is far more evil than any big cat.

Yes, it's that trope we all know and love: This monster movie flips the script on the creature feature sub genre by having humans, and one bastard in particular, be the real villains.

It's a perfect set up for a thrilling siege horror which ends on one of the genre's most cathartic denouements, and makes for an effective slice of eco-horror which is more thoughtful (and animal friendly) than most entries into the genre.
