10 Horror Movie Details You Definitely Missed The First Time

5. Why The Old Man Drinks Pepto-Bismol - Wrong Turn (2003)

Early on in Wrong Turn, the hapless victims pull into a gas station to ask directions and cross paths with its scruffy owner, Maynard (Wayne Robson), who rather unsettlingly sips away at a bottle of Pepto-Bismol.

While at a first glance there's nothing outwardly sinister about Maynard's choice of drink, considering that it's eventually revealed that he's related to the murderous cannibals and effectively helps lure tourists to their doom, it takes on an altogether more twisted meaning.

Given that Pepto-Bismol is genuinely used to treat heartburn and indigestion, it's probably fair to assume that Maynard has himself dabbled in cannibalism, but with his digestive system not being used to consuming human flesh, he chugs a little - or a lot of - Pepto-Bismol to settle his stomach.

Initially it just seems like a weird affectation, to have this gross, creepy guy doing something odd and offputting, but when you think about it he probably has a pretty damn good reason to be necking the pink stuff.
