10 Horror Movie Franchises That Need To End

2. Saw

Saw sequels are the horror genre's equivalent of Groundhog Day – the same sh**ty movie, over and over again. In true Groundhog fashion, characters returned from the dead, physical laws were ignored and the protagonist’s plight was never fully rationalized, but it all made sense according to its own peculiar logic.

By the time of Saw 3D, which inaccurately billed itself as “the final chapter”, so much shtick had been recycled that scenes intended to be shocking lurched into high camp. In an uproarious opening sequence, two alpha males, forced into combat by a tricycle-riding puppet, vie for the same woman in a buzzsaw duel before realizing she’s a cheap slut. So they agree to save themselves by allowing her to be sawn in half (top that, Rob Zombie).

As another victim faced another round of torture porn, viewers were reminded that they’d seen it all before and simply upping the volume couldn’t change that. Each Final Chapter receives a New Beginning, however, and Saw: Legacy is due for release this Halloween.
