10 Horror Movie Sequels You Probably Didn't Know Existed
And after watching some them you'll wish it stayed that way.
It feels like we've been talking about the movie businesses predilection for making sequels since the dawn of time. Every year it feels like there are more and more sequels to successful movies being made, and for good reason.
If you have a successful movie on your hands that made a ton of money, wouldn't you want to make another one to make a ton more money? Of course you would, because everyone likes money.
However, the fact of the matter is, a lot of sequels are pants, and this is no clearer anywhere than in the horror genre. Sure there are exceptions, Annabelle: Creation was a significantly better film than Annabelle, but these are usually few and far between.
Every so often you'll find a sequel made to a film you'd either never expect to get one, or a sequel so bad that they try to forget the fact it even exists. Can you imagine a fate worse than that?
Well, there is one: creating something so bad barely anybody even knows it's actually a thing. It happens, and though not all the sequels on this list are actually awful, many will leave you scratching your head and wondering why.
10. The Rage: Carrie 2
The 1976 adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie has some of the most recognisable iconography of any horror film out there. Seeing Sissy Spacek drenched in pig's blood whilst bringing a school prom to its knees with her telekinetic powers was pretty riveting stuff, even if it came with a side of nightmarish horror.
The film and book have since been remade twice - once for TV and once for the silver screen. Before either of those came to being though, did you know Carrie actually had a sequel that was released in 1999?
Though the film carries the subtitle Carrie 2, the link to the original film is deeply tenuous, as it lies solely in the fact that the lead character is the half-sister of Carrie.Indeed, it seems as though this detail has been added solely to cash in on its fanbase. Of the sequels on this list, The Rage is probably one of the least derided. It even grossed $17 million at the box office.
