You can strive to be a good person, make all the right choices, and remember to recycle, but that doesn't always mean you'll get what you deserve.

Take these ten folks for example - all good, upstanding, law-abiding citizens who ended up facing a terrible fate. Wait a second... we're talking about horror movie villains? Aren't they supposed to be evil? What on Earth is going on here?

For every "evil for the sake of evil" baddie in the horror genre, there is another who has slightly more complex motivations. Maybe they're compelled to get revenge, maybe they're doing what they think is right, or maybe they're just following their natural instincts. Who are we to judge that?

Whatever the reason, these ten "villains" all actually deserved better than they got. Sure, some of their methods were a little extreme/stabby, but we all make mistakes, right? What ever happened to turn the other cheek?

Once you've read this list, you're going to have a pretty hard time hating any of these antagonists ever again.

Okay, maybe that's a stretch - some of them are actual murderers - but you get the idea.

10. The Creation - Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein

The tale of Frankenstein - or Frankenstein's monster, if you wanna get all nerdy and correct about this - is one of literature's most enduring tales of horror.

Mary Shelley's 1818 novel about a scientist and his quest to create new life has been adapted for the stage and screen approximately fifty bajillion times over the years, including by director Kenneth Branagh in 1994.

Starring Branagh as the Doctor and Robert de Niro as his "Creation", the movie is considered one of the most faithful adaptations of the book. Unfortunately, this means it ends with a real gut punch when the Creation burns himself alive on the Doctor's funeral pyre.

The Creation never asked to be created. He never wanted the life of shame and rejection that his hideous appearance brought upon him. The fact that he chooses to end his life when his only family dies is utterly tragic.

Calling the Creation a "villain" is a contentious topic, but he does do some pretty evil things in this movie.

Should he have ripped that women's heart out? No. Are we still allowed to feel sympathetic towards him and wish he'd met a nicer end? Absolutely.
