10 Horror Movies Everyone Skips In A Franchise
6. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
After the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise ran out of steam, it was wisely decided the sixth instalment would be the last one (at least, at the time).
Although expectations shouldn't have been high, Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare had potential. This so-called finale would showcase Freddy Krueger as a human being for once and reveal the origin behind his powers. On top of that, the dream demon would face off against his own daughter, Maggie.
It sounded promising on paper, but The Final Nightmare was let down by cheap gags, horrible dialogue, and shoddy special effects. (Even the makeup for Freddy is insultingly cheap.) Rather than crafting a final showdown worthy of Freddy's legacy, the film ends with a preposterous 3D gimmick.
Worst of all, Freddy wasn't remotely scary. Even though Robert Englund played the fedora-sporting lunatic with childish glee in previous films, the character came across as legitimately haunting. But he behaves more like a slapstick character this time around, defying gravity like Wile E. Coyote, playing video games, and acting out The Wizard of Oz.
Luckily, Wes Craven directed an awesome sequel years later called New Nightmare, which serves as the true finale to the series. As such, horror purists can skip Freddy's Dead without missing anything.
