10 Horror Movies You Didn't Know Got Cancelled
2. The Invisible Woman
When Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man blew up the box office in 2020, discussion of a sequel quickly emerged, with The Invisible Woman being officially announced as in development by July of that year.
Though star Elisabeth Moss continued to give updates expressing her enthusiasm for the sequel as the years passed, the hammer finally dropped earlier this year when Whannell was promoting his new Wolf Man movie.
Whannell revealed that his planned sequel to The Invisible Man had been scrapped, noting that he didn't have the "artistic need" to develop the film any further, feeling that the original picture's ending was "a nice closed door," and he'd prefer to leave it there. Leigh did add that Universal may well produce their own sequel with another filmmaker in the future, though given Moss' enthusiasm for reuniting with Whannell on the sequel, it doesn't seem terribly likely we'll get a direct follow-up.
As Elizabeth Banks was developing her own standalone Invisible Woman movie prior to this in 2019, it's entirely possible Universal tries to pick that one up again. In its most recent iteration, though, the project is dead.
