The main surprise with this sequel is that there’s already nine films populating the franchise. What? When did that happen?

Born from the original Stephen King short story released in 1978, the first adaptation was brought to life in 1984, and has remained a staple of classic horror since - despite its poor quality. As for the eight other films that have made their way into a long and drawn out horror universe, all that can be said is that they’re straight to VOD for a reason.

Whilst Runaway doesn’t promise anything spectacular on its upcoming reveal, it does break away from tradition and take the franchise away from its sleepy midwestern roots. The plot follows pregnant Ruth who has escaped the murderous child cult, only to find that ten years later, she’s still being followed by her past. Maybe with so little expectation for a film, it might surprise audiences yet.
