Remember how excited you were by the prospect of Venom appearing on screen in Sam Raimi's too-big-to-fail third outing for Spider-Man? It was the perfect decision.

And then it clearly wasn't, and in among the emo fringe and the street dancing, and the other less worthy villains, Venom was squeezed into a corner where he couldn't really express himself, until he was trapped in a prison of tubes that Spidey played like a xylophone, and then killed with a way too conventional explosion.

And no, our eyes really hadn't deceived us: Spider-Man's most enduring villain was indeed effectively killed by a grand-scale re-enactment of Mike Oldfield's €œTubular Bells.€

How He Actually Deserved To Die

According to S.H.I.E.L.D. Venom is one of the greatest threats to humanity, and in the history of comics has never been presented as a mortal entity, the same way humankind is.

In short, one does not simply kill the Venom Symbiote, even if the host body is terminated, but that never seemed to bother Raimi and his writing team, who decided to reinvent the iconic character for the worse from top to bottom.
