10 Incredible Follow-Ups To Iconic Movies (That Nobody Saw)
4. Sunshine
Danny Boyle had a string of hits in his early career, from the Hitchock inspired Shallow Grave, to the era-defining Trainspotting. Boyle proved himself a man who could tackle any genre thrown at him, a trait that he displayed in full-force with his first foray into the world of horror, the pulse-pounding zombie apocalypse tale, 28 Days Later.
Boyle then followed that up with Sunshine, which is quite possibly his most underappreciated film to date. Telling the story of a group of astronauts who embark upon a dangerous mission to reignite the dying sun.
Despite a star-studded cast, great visual design and intriguing plot, Sunshine failed to make an impression on audiences at the time. Be it due to poor marketing or its outwards appearance as an adventure film as opposed to the more mean-spirited, psychological thriller that it is.
Ultimately, the film didn't make bank, grossing 32 million dollars against a budget of 40 million. Critics were somewhat divided on the film, particularly with its third act which has often been a point of contention for those who watch it.
All we'll say is that you should definitely watch it for yourself to make up your mind.
