10 Incredibly Bleak Recent Movie Endings

3. Woman Of The Hour

It's always intriguing when an actor makes the shift into the director's chair, with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Clint Eastwood, Ben Affleck, and countless more having seen outstanding success. Perhaps slightly more understated with the Netflix release of Woman of the Hour, came Anna Kendrick's turn.

The film, based on the upsettingly true story of serial killer Rodney Alcala, showed the man's heinous crimes of attacking and killing multiple women, with Kendrick's Sheryl only managing to make a narrow escape.

Though Rodney (Daniel Zovatto) was soon after arrested, the full extent of his crimes were revealed at the end of the film, and it is nothing short of devastating. His arrest and spending the remainder of his life behind bars would do nothing for the devastating number of women he killed.

The on screen events showed just a handful of attacks and attempted attacks, but the final post script confirms more. After getting arrested, he was released on bail during which time he killed a 21 year old woman and a 12 year old girl, with his full total of victims being potentially up to 130, all while authorities ignored decades of reports from survivors. It's a powerful and unsettling ending to a movie that shows just how the world can be with men like Rodney Alcala in it.
