10 Inferior Remakes That Should Never Have Been Made

3. The Shining (1997)

Why mess with brilliance? Stanley Kubrick directed the original version starring a terrifying Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. Shot to creepy perfection it gave us moments that live on today in movie history. Who can forget Nicholson hacking through the door with a €œHere€™s Johnny!€? The slow descent of his character Jack Torrance into madness is made shockingly real. Images of twins and €˜redrum€™ haunted us and are referenced regularly in pop culture today. Yet buried back in the dark corners where it belongs is a made for TV remake of this masterpiece. There was nothing to this version starring Steven Weber and Rebecca DeMornay, that it was almost an insult and desecration to the original.
