10 Infuriating Movie Sub-Plots That Are Still Unresolved

3. The Dark Knight - Did Coleman Reese Act On His Knowledge Of Batman's Identity and Where Was The Joker?

The Dark Knight may have been one of the greatest superhero sequels of all time but it left us with a couple of big questions. First up was Wayne Enterprises employee Coleman Reese, a lawyer who discovered that his boss was Batman and blackmailed him with ten million dollars to keep silent. Unfortunately for Mr Reese, the Joker caught wind of this little revelation and demanded his death so as not to spoil his own fun. Batman stepped in, saving Reese's life, and so ensuring that he keeps his little secret. By the end of The Dark Knight it still felt as if there was more to tell with this sub plot, not least because of the character€™s name; Mr Reese or 'mysteries', a trait used by Batman villain the Riddler. Indeed, many fans thought the events of The Dark Knight were just the precursor to the Riddler's appearance in the third film. Sadly this little sub plot was dropped and we never heard from Coleman Reese and his secrets again. And talking of missing characters, there was the Joker himself, absent from The Dark Knight Rises despite surviving the last film. With Heath Ledger€™s death, plans for the character might have changed but there is not a single reference made to this villain in the final film. Given the mass prison break out and the return of The Scarecrow (who may have taken on the Joker's planned role and judge, jury and executioner), the lack of the Joker is notably evident and still unresolved, although perhaps understandably so.
