The Theory
Black Widow's solo movie will reveal that Florence Pugh's mysterious character is actually the MCU's new iteration of the superhero.
Why It Might Be True
For starters, Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) died in Avengers: Endgame, and it honestly seems a bit odd to make a prequel origin story after-the-fact unless it has some direct impact on the future of the MCU.
It's said that Pugh has been cast as a spy "on the same level as Romanoff, likely her moral opposite", and a supposed "leak" from 4Chan even straight-up claims that Pugh's character will be Yelena Belova, who in the comics became the second Black Widow.
If true, it would certainly raise questions about the movie's timeline and the size of Pugh's role, but given her incredible acting chops and the fact she's almost exactly the same age that Johansson was when she started shooting Iron Man 2, it seems like a pretty snug fit.
Above all else, hiring a rising actress of Pugh's repute to play a small supporting role in a one-off film would be incredibly silly.
