4. Mephisto Is Behind Everything - WandaVision

The Rumour

Perhaps no single comic book entity has been more whispered about over the last year-or-so in MCU fandom than Mephisto, a frequent antagonist of both Spider-Man and Ghost Rider in the comics.

In WandaVision, many fans suspected that Mephisto would be revealed as Agatha Harkness' (Kathryn Hahn) shadowy, string-pulling husband.

And then once the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home dropped, it was theorised that Mephisto was impersonating Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), therefore explaining his stupidity in botching a spell for Peter Parker (Tom Holland).

What Actually Happened

Mephisto hasn't shown up anywhere yet - he wasn't Agatha's hubby, and Strange's slightly iffy behaviour in No Way Home was ultimately just some plot-motivated idiocy.

Many are still hoping that Mephisto might materialise in the upcoming WandaVision spin-off series Agatha: House of Harkness, but honestly, it's a total coin flip either way.
