And on the other hand, there's that small percentage of fans, whose dedication to a particular movie, character or actor can go above and beyond the call of duty.

Most of the time, this manifests itself in an acceptable manner - attending conventions, camping outside movie theatres, sending presents - but occasionally, fans can take their love for a movie star and build it to an unreasonably high level, with ramifications that can be amusing, heartwarming, or even deeply disturbing.

Whether their intentions were pure or not, there are some truly bizarre cases of people going to great lengths to impress, contact, or simply show their adulation for one of their favourite big-screen talents. Sending them severed body parts? Check. Stalking them for years? Check. Creating makeshift shrines? Oh yes.

It's one thing to be a fan, but it's another thing entirely to do stuff like this to show your admiration...

9. Woman In Love With Michael Douglas Threatens To Kill His Wife

It's perfectly okay to be fixated on an actor or actress, as long as you're not creepy about it. But doing what Michael Douglas superfan Dawnette Knight did? No. No no no no no. NO.

Over many months between 2003 and 2004, Knight - who was infatuated with the Wall Street and Romancing The Stone actor - sent multiple violent threats to Douglas' wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, who began suffering from nervous breakdowns as a result.

Within these threats, Knight reportedly stated that she'd kill Zeta-Jones and "feed her to the dogs", all because she wanted to be with Douglas. Knight even stood in court and falsely stated that she'd had an affair with him - and that he gave her money - as an attempt to justify her actions.

Douglas, of course, denied these allegations, and in response to the threats she received, Zeta-Jones called Knight "evil", telling the criminal that "you have profoundly affected me in how I conduct my life."

In the end, Knight was sentenced to jail for three years, though she did apologise to Zeta-Jones and expressed regret over her actions - not that that excuses them.
