Mickey Rourke was a fine actor in the 1980s, especially in films such as Diner, Rumble Fish and Angel Heart. Its a shame he had such a lull in the 90s, in a period of which Rourke described himself as a has-been. However, with age and the scars of his boxing years, his comeback in the mid-2000s flaunted his full potential with memorable performances in Sin City and The Wrestler, a film that earned him his first major award with a Golden Globe. Were spoilt for choice for intense acting and heart-breaking scenes here. It could be the outburst at the deli where Randy slices his finger, smears blood on his face and growls at the customers. Or maybe his final and perhaps fatal fight. Or it could be the scene where he accidentally forgets to meet with his daughter and faces the ultimate rejection when he tries to make amends. Instead, the most memorable heart-breaking moment is early on as he bonds with his daughter, played by Evan Rachel Wood, and admits that hes a broken down piece of meat lamenting all hes done wrong and how hes passed his prime, mirroring Rourke's own regrets. Try to hold your tears in. Its a performance with a lion heart.
