What begins as the usual fare of belching and beer, Bob and Doug McKenzie€™s debut film soon descends into a typical 80s action comedy. However, the trouble the Canadian duo find themselves caught up in resembles Shakespeare€™s most famous case of fratricide.

Shakespeare, eh? Words, eh? Soliloquy, eh? Well they don€™t quite say this, but still... You can tell it was on the tip of the tongue for both of them. A nice little touch comes when Pam, the films Hamlet equivalent, is deemed schizophrenic for a portion of the film as the story includes a mental institute, echoing the feigned and genuine madness Hamlet is famous for. Even the brewery where most of the Bob and Doug€™s drinking takes place is called Elsinore. It isn€™t the most faithful retelling of the story, but the majority of the laughs come from infantile comedy that I like to think the bawdy Bard would have at least cracked a smile at.
