The film industry has been inundated with superhero films over the past decade or so, with opportunistic studios mining comic books for any and all potential franchises that could be thrown up on the big screen. So inevitably, satirical superhero films were going to start popping up here and there. It was only a matter of time. That's where Super comes in. Rainn Wilson plays a truly odd duck who, after his wife leaves him, becomes convinced that he has a sacred duty to fight crime. One silly costume and an overenthusiastic sidekick later, he's out on the streets fighting the forces of evil. It's an absurd film with a pitch black sense of humor that plays with the conventions of the comic book world in a fun and refreshingly original way that will make any superhero aficionado grin. You might like Super if: you liked Guardians of the Galaxy and are interested in seeing one of director James Gunn's earlier efforts.
