Anton Chigurh is terrifying, and No Country For Old Men makes this very clear indeed. Hes a force of nature, murdering with impunity when he can and when he wants to, foisting his wrath upon civilians and bounty hunters alike. You do not cross this man, and to be fair, thats the point of the movie if Chigurh wasnt so scary, Llewellyn Moss could just stand his ground and fight the bloke off. But obviously, that cant be done his adversary his like a ghost with a cattle gun, drifting between spaces without being caught. Except, yknow, that time he did get caught. Wait what? Yes, Im serious in case you forgot, Chigurh got himself arrested at the very start of the movie. Hes not just pulled over or anything like that a sheriffs deputy actually has the most dangerous man in the state in handcuffs. Granted, he may not have known Chigurhs exact reputation, but surely theres a procedure for what you do with a suspect and turning your back on them and holding a phone conversation isnt one of them, especially when confronted with someone as imposing-looking as Chigurh. I know the film had to continue past this point, but if we look at it objectively, that policeman basically deserved his so fate through sheer chronic stupidity alone.
