10 MORE Great Horror Movies You'll Only Watch Once
2. Saint Maud
If you ever fancied watching a traumatizing film (for some reason), you can't go wrong with Saint Maud.
When Christian nurse Maud (Morfydd Clark) fails to resuscitate a patient, she becomes utterly disillusioned with her life. While she's caring for dying atheist Amanda, God speaks to Maud, stating she will find redemption if she saves the woman's soul. Since this entry is on this list, you'd be right to assume things don't go to plan.
It may only be 82 minutes long, but Saint Maud has enough emotionally scarring material to last a lifetime. Despite its brevity, certain scenes feel like they go on forever, not because they're boring, but due to how heartbreaking and nerve-wracking they are. Morfydd Clark invokes feelings of such helplessness and desolation, it's harrowing to sit through.
Although there are plenty of movies that have a jaw-dropping twist, Saint Maud might be the only one to throw in a monumental bombshell in the last second. The final frame happens so quickly, you'll need a few moments to process, not just what you saw, but how it recontextualises the entire story.
And when that penny finally drops, it's something you'll never want to relive.
