10. Ben - The Deep House

2021's The Deep House is a, no pun intended, deeply unsettling offering that's overflowing with tension and nerve-jingling claustrophobia. It also happens to have an utter prick as one of its two central characters.

Said prick is James Jagger's Ben, and it's his obsessive behaviour that gets he and his girlfriend Tina into a whole host of trouble.

Plot-wise, The Deep House has Ben and Tina as a couple of YouTubers who are touring Europe to explore haunted houses. With Ben in particular constantly thinking of likes, views, and subscriptions, the pair find themselves in France as they seek out a sanatorium that's located at the bottom of a lake. Unfortunately, upon arriving at this locale, it turns out the lake is a hugely popular tourist spot, and thus Ben and Tina are unable to film content.

While Tina is eager to just enjoy some vacation time, Ben learns of a hidden sunken mansion that's a little off the beaten track. Despite Tina's hesitation, Jagger's character badgers her into exploring this underwater abode.

That this house is bizarrely in immaculate condition should've been a major red flag, and the duo then find scratches on doors, torture masks, and eventually a few pristine corpses. As Tina pleads with Ben to head back to the surface, he can't help but delve further and further into this property, all in his quest to garner more clicks.

So, when Ben finally meets his demise at the hands of the spirits of this mansion, it's an extremely cathartic moment.
