10 MORE Horror Movie Openings That Get Worse The More You Think About It
10. A Quiet Place
A Quiet Place's opening scene is absolutely devastating, as the Abbott family witnesses the loss of their youngest son, Beau (Cade Woodward), when his toy space shuttle make a noise which causes one of the alien creatures to attack him.
It sets a chilling "anyone can die" precedent for the rest of the movie, and while we swiftly cut to one year later, the fallout of Beau's death is worth thinking about for a minute or two.
First and foremost, none of the Abbott family were allowed to properly grieve Beau's death - even in the seconds after he was killed, they evidently had to stifle their natural cries of anguish, internalising all that visceral pain to avoid becoming victims themselves.
Worse still, they presumably couldn't even hold a conventional funeral for their boy, settling instead for leaving a makeshift memorial at the site where he died.
That's... a whole lot of unchecked trauma right there.
