10 More Huge Actors You Didn’t Notice As Extras In Movies

7. Richard Armitage - Star Wars - Episode I: The Phantom Menace

To say that they are two of the biggest film franchises of all time, the crossover of actors who have appeared in both Star Wars and Middle-earth is surprisingly small.

The major names are, of course, Andy Serkis (Kino Loy and Gollum) and Sir Christopher Lee (Count Dooku and Saruman), with a smattering of others playing minor characters. However, one of the lead actors in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy has also shown his face in a galaxy far, far away, albeit well over a decade earlier.

Though Martin Freeman's Bilbo Baggins may have been the protagonist of the story, everything revolved around Thorin Oakenshield's quest to restore himself and his line to Erebor as the King under the Mountain. Richard Armitage portrayed Thorin, adding yet another huge franchise to his catalogue after 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, and before that, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

In one scene in which Natalie Portman's Padmé Amidala used a decoy as the Queen of Naboo (who happened to be played by Keira Knightley), Armitage played one of the guards standing behind the proceedings. Even looking back now, it would be difficult to spot who it was, as the young, clean-shaven man looks nothing like Thorin Oakenshield.
