10 More Incredible Horror Movies You’ll Never Watch Again (And Why)
7. Inside (2007)
This list wouldn't be complete without at least one New French Extremity movie.
While transgressive features like Them, High Tension, and Martyrs offer a level of brutality that few features can compete against, Inside cranked it up exponentially since the majority of the violence focuses on a heavily pregnant woman.
At the beginning of Inside, mother-to-be Sarah is minding her own business at home when an unknown woman suddenly breaks in. And this demented invader doesn't mess around, as the first thing this stranger does after entering Sarah's home is stab her prominently pregnant belly with a pair of scissors. As hard as it is to believe, the assault only gets more extreme from this point, so this nerve-shredding image serves as a warning of what's to come.
The bloodshed here is absurdly over-the-top but never feels unrealistic thanks to the magnificent editing, amazing practical effects, and towering performances from leading ladies Alysson Paradis and Beatrice Dalle.
Although Inside should be praised for its claustrophobic atmosphere and heart-pounding action, it doesn't need to be experienced twice. There are so many potentially traumatic images here, some people will regret even watching it once.
