10 More Most Paused Zombie Horror Movie Moments

8. Eye Socket Invasion - The Sadness (2021)

Pound for pound on pure depravity alone (and leaving aside anything labelled "by Gaspar NoĆ©"), things don't get much worse than this Taiwanese horror from Canadian director Rob Jabbaz. More a description of how you feel after watching it than the events of the film itself, The Sadness' title promises something grim, and boy does it deliver.

Pushing the envelope for what zombie movies can be, The Sadness amps up its afflicted persons on a 28 Days Later-like rage virus (the Alvin virus) that invades people's brains and turns them into sadistic psychopaths, intent only on doing serious harm to themselves and others. While there are some pretty unforgivable images throughout the film - including binfuls of infected zom-babies, face meetings, and ball bustings (literally) - the defining pause-worthy scene comes in the aftermath of an umbrella tip through the eye.

After losing her eye, Molly (Ying-Ru Chen) makes it to a medical centre, but stuck in her chair awaiting surgery, her attacker finds her and uses her eye-hole for something else... And while we shouldn't pause, there's something in all of us that compels us to do that. Just to see. Just to confirm our fears. Just to know if it goes in.
