From the director of 2014's coming-of-age drama Mud, 2011's (maybe) apocalyptic psychodrama Take Shelter sees the seemingly always at least a little unstable Michael Shannon play a family man plagued by inexplicable visions of a forthcoming extinction event of biblical proportions.

Is Zod losing his mind, or seeing the future thanks to a helping hand from God? If it's the latter, why was he chosen, and if it's the former, what's going on with the metaphorically charged ending?
