10 Most Bad-ass Chainsaw Users In Film

2. Bruce Campbell - Evil Dead 2

As we've already seen, you can't really talk about chainsaws in movies without the Evil Dead series coming up. While the role of the dreaded implement in the original Evil Dead is often remembered incorrectly (Bruce Campbell's Ash does pick one up at one point, but doesn't have the heart to use it), it's really in the more comedic sequel that Evil Dead and chainsaws go hand in hand - almost literally.

By contrast with the more passive, geekier take on the character in the 1980 original, it's in the 1987 sequel that the Ash we know and love really came into being. Campbell gives his definitive performance here as the over-confident, have-a-go hero whose manly bravado does very little to hide the fact that he's clearly scared out of his wits.

And, of course, it's in this movie that the chainsaw became established as Ash's key weapon of choice. After first utilising it to finish off his possessed girlfriend Linda, Ash is later forced to use it to lop off his hand at the wrist when it becomes infected by a deadite bite.

Then, his signature look is created when Ash secures the chainsaw on the stump of his severed hand and straps his shotgun (not christened 'boomstick' until the follow-up Army of Darkness) across his back. Just like that, a million Halloween costumes/cosplay outfits were born.
