The phrase is most commonly associated with the James Bond movies; the character will at some point in every movie say "Name's Bond, James Bond", an entertaining cliche that nevertheless permeates through to cinema as a whole. Though I can deal with it as being a staple in Bond movies, it makes me cringe whenever a character in any other film will say, for instance, "Name's Clay, Bill Clay", because it's just not at all realistic or conducive to the way people talk in real life. In reality, I'd either say "Name's Shaun", or "Name's Shaun Munro". I have never and probably never will hear someone greet me with their surname followed by a delivery of their entire name because it sounds stupid and wastes time. A staggering number of films use this, and it infuriates me every time; I'm instantly taken out of the narrative and driven into an absurd, totally unjustifiable rage by it.
