10 Most Powerful Star Wars Characters

By James Hunt /

4. Luke Skywalker

Across the original trilogy, it is Luke Skywalker's 'hero journey' that we follow. We first see him as a humble farmboy on Tatooine, with dreams of leaving it behind to join a flight academy, who has to make do with bulls-eyeing Womp rats. The universe, however, had much bigger plans for him. The son of the powerful Jedi Anakin Skywalker, he embarks on a mission to become a Jedi himself, with training from Obi-Wan and later Master Yoda. Across the trilogy we really get to see his powers develop, learning the ways of the Force in A New Hope, truly begins to understand it in The Empire Strikes Back and finally mastering it by Return Of The Jedi. Although there's anger in him, he learns how to control it, shown brilliantly in the climactic battle in Return Of The Jedi when he manages to defeat his father, but does not deliver a fatal blow, instead helping him convert back to the Light Side. His role in The Force Awakens has largely been kept a secret, but it's easy to imagine that he could now be an even wiser, more powerful Jedi Master than the one we saw some 30 years ago.
