10 Most Ridiculous Oscar Snubs Of All Time
3. John Cazale - The Godfather Part II

John Cazale might have only acted in 5 films in his entire career, but he cemented himself in film history by having inarguably the strongest track record of any actor ever, given that all 5 of these films were nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, and 3 of these films went on to win the award outright. Cazale, who died of bone and lung cancer not long after production wrapped on The Deer Hunter, gave his most memorable performance in The Godfather Part II, as Michael Corleone's (Al Pacino) treacherous brother Fredo, who Michael reluctantly has killed at the end of the film. It's Cazale's performance, at once fiery, petulant and sympathetic, that cements the emotional crux of the film's narrative, the complicated relationship between two brothers that ends in the most tragic of circumstances. Looking at the Best Supporting Actor nominees list for that year, it's clear to see why Cazale was not nominated; the film already had three actors nominated in the category, though one can't help but think that, alongside Robert De Niro, he was probably one of the most deserving.
