10. An Evil Teddy Bear - Imaginary
A child’s imagination is one of the most powerful forces on Earth. If there was a way to harness it as a source of power, the global energy crisis would be solved in an instant. Instead, it’ll have to settle for being the plot device in a sub-par horror.
2024’s Imaginary centres on a children’s author named Jessica and her stepdaughter, Alice, as they move into a new home. One day, Alice finds a teddy bear and immediately falls in love, but the cuddly toy poses a serious threat, and not just because its eyes are a choking hazard.
The bear, which is called Chauncey, used to belong to Jessica and just so happens to be inhabited by an evil demon. Chauncey does have an alternative monstrous form, but for the most part, he’s just a cute little plaything.
Haunted toys have provided plenty of scares over the years, but this one falls well short of the mark. Watching characters run around pretending to be scared of a raggedy Paddington is extremely difficult to buy into and Imaginary was slated by critics who deemed it nowhere near scary enough.
