10 Most Ridiculous Weapons Used In Action Movies
3. The Kurgan's Sword - Highlander
All these years - and sequels - later, and the original Highlander is still the only good one. Like, not even a contest, but that's neither here nor there. But even the original still had its moments where you sat back and wondered if anyone involved gave thought to what they were doing.
The Kurgan, the antagonist of the original film, was where a lot of Gen-X nerds were first introduced to the irreplaceable Clancy Brown. And like any Clancy Brown performance, he does not disappoint. His sword, however, is one of the silliest ideas for a sword ever imagined, and it all has to do with one simple design quirk.
On the surface, it's just like any other sword you see in the movie, but with the added asterisk of the Kurgan being able to dismantle it at will for easy carrying. What's the problem here? What do you THINK is the problem with a sword being made specifically with the purpose of being taken apart into multiple pieces is? To give you a hint: it makes combat significantly harder, since you're fighting with a sword MEANT to come apart at will.
If the movie had just an ounce of realism to it, it would have been over the minute MacCloud and the Kurgan fought for the first time, because MacCloud's sword would just cleave right through his flimsy sword and chop his head off.
