7. The Close Call - Mission: Impossible

The legendary Tom Cruise has found himself in the middle of his fair share of high pressure scenarios on the big-screen.

But it's his thrilling work as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible series that obviously holds the majority of the top spots when it comes to intense Cruise cinematic moments.

It's one of Cruise's first real heart-stopping stunts in the franchise that still ranks as the most nerve-racking of the lot, however.

Attempting to get his hands on an all-important list, Hunt is lowered into a CIA vault that will set off a massive lockdown should a noticeable sound be made or the temperature rise above a certain level. Oh, and if any weight hits the floor when CIA analyst William Donloe isn't present.

Sure enough, just as Hunt looks to have somehow pulled off this suitably impossible mission, a rat entering the overhead duct results in disavowed IMF agent Franz Krieger almost dropping his pal onto the sensitive floor.

The stress is real as Cruise jolts and winces inches off the ground while the temperature slowly rises, knowing a single bead of sweat could also blow the whole operation.

Thankfully, a droplet is caught and Hunt is yanked back out of trouble just in time.

But close calls don't get much closer.
