10. The Boogeyman

Everyone, young and old, big and small, knows of The Boogeyman. This terrifying monster of legend has been used to keep kids in line - or, more accurately, traumatise them into behaving - for decades. So, it is no surprise that the legendary Stephen King's take on the iconic spirit is bone-chilling.

Based on King's short story of the same name, The Boogeyman tells the tale of a family grieving the loss of their mother/wife. As the two sisters and father struggle to move on, a deranged man enters their life and brings a twisted supernatural entity with him, the titular Boogeyman.

This movie is hardly anything you haven't seen before, as it tells a standard Boogeyman story. However, the amount of dread and atmosphere in this flick makes it stand tall above many other adaptations of this terrifying folkloric figure. It's got tension, good pacing, a great design for the creature, and some stellar acting to carry the weight of the narrative.

It also comes jam-packed with freaky jump scares that leave you dreading every dark corner, and oh boy, there sure are a lot of those. You'll be on edge the whole time you watch it, and there will be no respite.
