10 Most Unconvincing Action Stars Of All Time

By Shaun Munro /

2. Shaquille O'Neal - Steel

Sports stars can make good action stars - just look at Dwayne Johnson - but so often their charismatic presence and physical prowess somehow doesn't translate to the cinematic medium, especially if they're given the lowest common denominator, bottom-of-the-barrel scripts like Shaquille O'Neal was with Steel. Shaq might have been a surprisingly entertaining presence in Blue Chips, but really, was the role of a successful basketball star really that much of a stretch for him? His subsequent family movie Kazaam in which the "actor" plays a genie proved a troubling warning for what was to follow, and in Steel, Shaq plays a weapons designer who quits the military because he decides to suddenly grow a conscience. However, when he finds that gangs have stolen the weapons he designed, he decides to fight back by...building his own suit of armour and kicking their asses... Shaq dons what looks like a Robocop suit someone's mother hurriedly made them the night before Halloween, except that a fully-grown man is embarrassing himself by deciding to wear it.
