It's often joked about that Adam Sandler does one worthy dramatic role every three or four years before returning to his usual conveyor belt of generically awful comedy films.
And it looks like the time has come once again for a banger, as Sandler is imminently due to appear in Uncut Gems, a new crime thriller from the Safdie brothers (Good Time).
Sandler will play protagonist Howard Ratner, a jewelry store owner and compulsive gambler who gets in debt and must a find a way to pay it off before it's too late.
Early festival reviews have lavished praise upon both the film and especially Sandler's performance, with many critics deeming it Oscar-worthy and even the strongest of his career to date.
Above all else, there's a sentiment that this is so utterly counter to anything Sandler has done before, and a major demonstration of just how much range he truly possesses with the right material in tow.
It's certainly a hell of a lot better than playing his own sister, right?
