10 Movie Bands We Really Wish Were Real

2. The Blues Brothers - The Blues Brothers (1980)

Starting life as a comedy act on Saturday Night Live back in the late 70s, it wasn’t until John Landis’s beloved cult favourite hit screens in 1980 when the titular soul band would become immortalised.

Formed by comedy duo John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood Blues, The Blues Brothers (for those who still haven’t seen it) begins with the pair revisiting the orphanage they grew up in after Jake's released from prison. When they learn that the orphanage needs a lot of money to remain open, the pair embark on a mission to reunite their band to raise the required funds.

The film itself is non-stop entertainment complete with car chases, comedy, and star-studded cameos; it’s the definition of fun on the big screen. But none of these elements can match the blistering musical performances.

Much like their early TV appearances, The Blues Brothers’ presence is electrifying. From Belushi’s boisterous vocals, Elwood’s virtuosic harmonica playing, and the growling horns that accompany them, every aspect of their shows are memorable for all the right reasons.

“Rawhide”, “Shake A Tail Feather”, and – of course – the explosive, show-stopping finale “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love” will leave a massive grin on your face.
