6. Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
The fourth Indiana Jones film is massively controversial with fans for a number of reasons, not least the introduction of Indy's (Harrison Ford) new greaser sidekick Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf), who is of course eventually revealed to be the son of both Indy and Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen).
But the movie's worst offense wasn't shoehorning LaBeouf into an obnoxious supporting role or making him swing on vines with CGI monkeys, it was that obnoxious ending, which implies every fan's worst nightmare - that one day, Mutt might inherit the franchise.
The film's final scene takes place during Indy and Marion's wedding, where Indy's signature hat gets blown by Mutt's feet, but just as the John Williams score ramps up and Mutt prepares to place the hat atop his head, Indy gracefully snatches it away and wears it himself.
Clearly, the implication was "Someday, but not yet", leaving fans even more infuriated that the series was essentially being lined up for LaBeouf to one day command. It's nothing against LaBeouf as an actor but, just...no.
Thankfully, LaBeouf seemed as pissed off with the final film as fans, blatantly slagging it off post-release and getting jettisoned from the franchise as a result.
Indeed, Mutt won't be returning for the upcoming fifth film, and though there's a solid chance it will introduce yet another protege for Indy, hopefully it'll be a more suitable Chris Pratt-type.
