Originally... The first bunch of relatively poor Fast and Furious films have clear focus on cars, car chases, car racing and plots that involve comparing cars competitively in some way, shape or form. So What Changed? Kind of bizarrely, Fast Five came out of nowhere and not only brought some life to a mediocre franchise, but gave the movies a new "heist movie" genre edge that worked itself into the narrative seamlessly. Gone are the faux-serious aspects that never quite helped the series, replaced with a sense of fun, more gunfights and a delirious cartoony excitement. The next movie, scheduled to hit theatres later this year, already looks to be clinging onto the new movie style and even includes a scene with a freakin' tank! Did It Pay Off? There's no doubt that the switch was made just at the right time: Fast Five, with its genuinely exciting action sequences and comic banter, is the best movie in the series.
