10 Movie Franchises That Screwed Up Their Final Part

2. Scary Movie 5

Scary Movie films are, for many millennials, their childhood. It was a film series full of late 90s and early 00s charm and dared to mock just about everything, from serial killers to stoners, slasher movies to action ones, the intellectual to the intellectually challenged and, as you’d expect from a parody movie, everyone and anyone in between.

And the first three are perfectly great films. Anna Farris does a superb job as the ditzy Cindy Campbell and appearances from both Wayan brothers produce great comedic value, even if much of their jokes end up being about either racism or homophobia - something that was, at this point in time, seemingly okay to do.

But by the time the fourth film came out the jokes were already beginning to run dry, the Wayan brothers’ characters had been written out of the franchise completely and Farris is still, admirably, plugging away as Cindy Campbell - albeit with far less enthusiasm.

So why on earth was a fifth made? Because, not to be blunt, this film is hideous. It tries, or so it claims, to mock the Black Swan movie that came out the previous year with Ashley Tisdale, relatively fresh from her High School Musical days, replacing Farris as the lead.

But by the time the credits roll and you comprehend what rubbish you’ve had to put up with you realise you’d prefer to listen to Tisdale blast out all her High School Musical songs - including the dreadful Humuhumunukunukuapua - than sit through Scary Movie 5 ever again.
