The Mistake

There are so, so many unforgettable moments in Robin Williams' classic comedy Mrs. Doubtfire, including the hilarious sequence where Daniel Hillard's (Williams) titular fake-nanny is unexpectedly visited by a social worker, Mrs. Sellner (Anne Haney).

With no time to put on his Mrs. Doubtfire make-up, Daniel simply smothers his face with a cake to disguise himself. As he serves Mrs. Sellner some tea, however, the icing on his face begins to melt off, falling into her drink.

This might seem like a perfectly planned sight gag, but it was purely an accident, and a result of the set's hot lights genuinely melting the icing off Williams' face.

The Awesome Acting

More trigger-happy directors might've keenly yelled "cut!" were they not equipped with a lead actor as wonderfully dynamic as Williams, and so Chris Columbus kept rolling as Williams delivered the off-the-cuff quip, "Oh! You've got your cream and sugar. It's a little cappu-tea-no."

Williams' performance is so convincingly natural, so keen to go with the flow, that Columbus would've been insane to try and re-shoot the scene as the script originally dictated.
