10 Movie Remakes That Ripped Off Audiences

5. Godzilla (1998)

In Hollywood, bad movies fail upwards. Even though Godzilla met with a lukewarm response from critics and audiences (with the filmmakers themselves making some unflattering comments), it still earned $375 million at the worldwide box office, making it the year'€™s 3rd biggest hit. Somewhere in amongst the merchandise, the tie-ins with Taco Bell (who promoted the film with its Gordita line of tacos) and the overbearing product placement was a monster movie, and very dumb and dull it was too.

The cast had clearly overdosed on the tagline (€œSize Does Matter€) because they couldn'€™t go 5 minutes without commenting upon Godzilla'€™s stature, despite being contradicted by the movie at every turn. Even though he€™'s a 400 foot tall amphibious tyrannosaurus mutant, Godzilla is somehow able to disappear at will in the middle of New York City. Top that, David Copperfield.
