10 Movie Scenes That Are Awesome (But Nobody Talks About)
10. We're On The Radio! - That Thing You Do!
The directing debut of one Mr. Tom Hanks, That Thing You Do! is about The Wonders, a small-time 60s pop group who have a hit with a song called, well, That Thing You Do!
The movie was very well-liked upon its release and the song even bagged itself an Oscar nomination. The scene we're talking about is when the band first hear their work on the radio.
Liv Tyler's character, Faye, hears the song being played and goes absolutely ballistic. Not only does she almost forget to post her letters, but she begins screaming wildly with joy before running off to tell the band the good news.
Faye collects the various members on her screeching journey, disturbing the peace at an electrical store. The elated musicians and their friends tune every single radio set in the shop to the station playing their song as they dance around like maniacs.
The scene is joy personified and perfectly captures the unbridled happiness felt when hard work finally pays off. As the film's events unfold, this scene becomes bittersweet in retrospect. However, at the time, it was great to just sit back and watch the frenzy.
